In May 2023, we delivered a comprehensive Legionella Awareness Training course at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. The training was designed to enhance the understanding and compliance of the studio’s personnel regarding water hygiene and legionella control.
Scope of Work: The training course covered key areas essential for legionella awareness, including:
- Water systems safety
- Medical aspects of Legionellosis with case studies
- Applicable statutory documentation
- Requirements of the ACOP L8 and other technical support documents
- Awareness of the Written Scheme of Control
- Monitoring requirements for hot and cold-water systems
- Flushing regimes
- Water sampling requirements
- Record-keeping and logbooks
The course was structured to provide comprehensive knowledge without the pressure of a pass/fail assessment. Instead, each trainee received individual feedback in a PDF report highlighting areas for continued focus. A certificate of attendance was issued to each participant upon completion.
Training Delivery: The training was conducted on-site at Elstree Studios by Haroon Ikram, our in-house water hygiene compliance manager. The session lasted from 9 am to 4 pm and accommodated up to seven participants. Each trainee was provided with training manuals and suitable stationary to facilitate their learning experience.
Outcome: The training ensured that the studio’s staff were well-informed about legionella risks and the necessary control measures. By focusing on practical aspects such as monitoring requirements, flushing regimes, and maintaining accurate records, the staff were equipped to manage water systems more effectively, thereby reducing the risk of legionella outbreaks.
