Project Overview:
Since 2023, Well Water has supported Harrow Council in delivering comprehensive Legionella Duty holder and Responsible Person Training across its maintained school estate. The training initiative was designed to improve awareness, enhance statutory compliance, and equip site managers and school representatives with the essential knowledge required to meet their legal obligations under ACoP L8, HSG274, and COSHH 2002.
Scope of Work:
The training programme focused on:
- Educating delegates on the history and biology of Legionella bacteria and associated illnesses.
- Clarifying the legal responsibilities of duty holders and responsible persons.
- Providing detailed understanding of the Legionella risk assessment process, the written scheme of control, and required monitoring and record-keeping protocols.
- Offering practical guidance on managing TMVs, showers, calorifiers, infrequently used outlets, and other high-risk components in school water systems.
- Promoting audit readiness, aligned with Harrow’s internal water compliance auditing process.
Project Delivery:
Training was hosted in a professional, classroom-style setting at Well Water’s Uxbridge training centre, complete with branded resources and structured presentations. All sessions were delivered by industry-certified trainers, with printed course notes and assessments included. Attendees were awarded certificates of completion, and competency was evaluated through post-session assessments. The content was tailored specifically to reflect Harrow Council’s expectations, incorporating case examples and references to the council’s own management structure and compliance forms.
Outcomes:
- Over 60 site staff and senior managers successfully trained to date.
- Increased local authority compliance scores during audits.
- Enhanced understanding of best practices for Legionella prevention across school estates.
- Reduced risk of non-compliance and strengthened council-wide water hygiene culture.
Conclusion:
This case study demonstrates Well Water’s capability to design and deliver specialist training solutions that support clients with both technical excellence and regulatory compliance. The partnership with Harrow Council highlights our role in empowering duty holders, ensuring legal alignment, and contributing to the safe and efficient management of water systems in educational settings.
