Project Overview:
In 2023, Well Plumbing & Heating and Well Water operatives undertook a comprehensive project at St John’s Primary School to address and remediate high levels of Legionella detected in their water systems. The primary goal was to eliminate Legionella risks and restore the water systems to a safe, compliant state. The scope of work required a multifaceted approach, combining mechanical interventions with detailed monitoring and disinfection processes.
Scope of Work:
The project scope included the following key activities:
- Pump Replacement and System Chlorination:
- Replaced two EALPHA1 pumps to improve the water flow and system efficiency.
- Conducted a full chlorination process on the domestic water systems, ensuring thorough disinfection in line with PD855468:2015 guidelines.
- Temperature Profiling and Sampling:
- Performed comprehensive temperature profiling across the site before and after adjusting Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs).
- Cleaned strainers and conducted Legionella sampling and analysis to monitor system conditions.
- Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV) Removal and Replacement:
- Installed 16 new TMV2/3 thermostatic mixing valves to improve temperature control.
- Carried out fail-safe checks and disinfections on existing TMVs to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Filter Replacement and Pump Adjustment:
- Installed a replacement HydroFIL backwash filter to enhance water filtration.
- Adjusted secondary return pumps to their optimal settings to ensure balanced water circulation throughout the system.
Project Delivery:
The remediation efforts were meticulously planned and executed through regular site visits and close coordination with the school’s facilities management team. Detailed records of all activities were maintained to ensure transparency and compliance with health and safety standards. Our proactive approach, including regular monitoring and adjustments, ensured the effectiveness of the remediation process.
Outcome:
The project successfully brought St John’s Primary School’s water systems back into compliance with health and safety standards. All actionable Legionella levels were eliminated, ensuring a safe environment for students and staff. The project’s success was a testament to Well Water’s thorough execution and commitment to high standards in water hygiene management.
Conclusion:
This case study demonstrates Well Water’s ability to tackle complex Legionella remediation projects in educational settings. Our expertise in mechanical and water hygiene solutions ensures that clients like St John’s Primary School receive effective and sustainable solutions tailored to their needs.
